Nimon & Sons is one of Hawke's Bay's longest-standing passenger transport names. The business traces back to 1905, when John Giles Nimon bought an existing Hastings horse-carriage bus service from William Arthur Beecroft, and it remained in Nimon family ownership for more than a century.
Important note for planners: in October 2021 the business was sold to Masterton-based Tranzit Group, and the nimons.co.nz web address now redirects to Tranzit Coachlines. Enquiries that once went to Nimon & Sons are today handled through Tranzit's Hawke's Bay operation. The historic Whakatu base at 39 Whakatu Road, Hastings, continues to operate as a Tranzit Coachlines depot, alongside a second Hawke's Bay depot at Onekawa, Napier, and a Taupō depot to the north-west.
Under Tranzit Coachlines, the Hawke's Bay operation covers charter and event transport, school bus services, tourism and cruise work, and public transport contracts. For business events, the relevant capability is group charter: moving delegates between accommodation, venues and off-site functions on a set schedule.
Tranzit Coachlines states that as part of The Tranzit Group it draws on a nationwide pool of more than 3,000 vehicles, ranging from 12-seat mini vans and minibuses through to standard coaches, luxury coaches, double-deckers and electric buses, with vehicles up to 53 seats. When Tranzit acquired Nimon & Sons, the Hawke's Bay fleet reported at the time of sale was around 130 vehicles.
Tranzit Coachlines holds Qualmark Gold, New Zealand tourism's official quality mark, and is a member of the Bus and Coach Association of New Zealand and Tourism Industry Aotearoa.
