Academy Motor Inn is a family owned and operated motel at 734 Cameron Road, Tauranga, at the intersection of 15th Avenue and Cameron Road and opposite Tauranga Boys' College. It is one of the few motels in the city with a purpose-set-up conference room, which makes it useful for small meetings and training as well as delegate accommodation.

Units and facilities

Room types include mezzanine and access studios, standard studios, and one and two-bedroom units. All units have private bathrooms and self-catering kitchenettes.

Conference room

The conference room is on the first floor with its own stairway access to the side of the motel, an adjacent kitchenette and two toilets. It measures 6.4m x 6.6m and seats:

• Up to 12 in U-shape, boardroom or classroom style
• Up to 18 theatre style

The room has a 50 inch smart TV allowing presenters to stream from a laptop, air conditioning and double glazing, a well-equipped kitchenette with fridge and freezer, tea and coffee making and a sink, and access to a large balcony overlooking the pool and BBQ area. Catering is available on request. Published hire rates are $220 including GST for a half day (1-4 hours) and $300 including GST for a full day (5-8 hours). The motel notes that parking is limited, which is worth confirming when booking a meeting with external attendees.

Location

The motel is a few minutes' drive from the Tauranga CBD and The Strand, and within reach of Tauranga Hospital, the Tauriko Business Estate, the Port of Tauranga, the Historic Village and QEII Centre sporting facilities. Tauranga Airport is about 9km, around 15 minutes. Mount Maunganui and Papamoa beaches are within roughly 20 minutes. Rotorua is about an hour's drive and Auckland around two and a half hours.

Suitability

A practical choice for small board meetings, training sessions, workshops and interview days of up to 12 to 18 people, and for corporate travellers, contractors and project crews needing longer stays with parking, workspace and chargeback dining.
