Bay Oval, at Blake Park on Tweed Street in Mount Maunganui, is the Bay of Plenty region's principal cricket venue, a short walk from Mount Maunganui's beaches. Since its first club fixture in March 2007, the ground has grown into a recognised international cricket venue, hosting BLACKCAPS and WHITE FERNS ODIs, touring international sides, domestic representative fixtures and club finals, as well as serving as the annual headquarters for the AIMS Games schools tournament.
Unlike many major grounds, Bay Oval favours grassy banks over concrete terracing, giving it a relaxed, beachside atmosphere, and it is equipped with floodlights for night matches. Two premium function spaces, Craigs Lounge and Fosters Lounge, accommodate up to 320 guests between them for private and corporate events, while the Modern Pavilion hosts smaller public and private functions, meetings and gatherings.
Beyond cricket, Bay Oval hosts community events such as Christmas in the Park, reflecting its billing as "a facility built by the community, for the community." Its combination of international sporting pedigree and flexible function space makes it a strong option for corporate hospitality, conferences and gala events in the Bay of Plenty.
Tauranga venues has further options for events in the region.
