Drifter Christchurch is a hybrid hotel and hostel at 96 Lichfield Street in the Christchurch CBD. It is the first property under the Drifter brand, developed by The Backpacker Group, and opened in 2024. Lichfield Street places Drifter in the heart of the rebuilt central city, roughly 400 metres from the city centre. It is within walking distance of Te Pae Christchurch Convention Centre, Riverside Market, the Avon River and the Terrace hospitality precinct, and sits next to the central bus interchange with a direct service to Christchurch International Airport, around 15 minutes' drive away.

Suitability for groups and events

Drifter does not present itself as a conference hotel, and no dedicated meeting rooms are publicised. Its value to the MICE sector is as group and delegate accommodation: a large room inventory at mixed price points, a short walk from Te Pae, with communal lounges, work areas and an on-site restaurant and bar that can absorb a crowd. That makes it a practical option for student and youth groups, sports teams, touring parties, incentive groups working to a modest budget, and overflow accommodation for larger conferences held at nearby Christchurch venues.
