Gantley's Tavern is a historic stone pub on Arthurs Point Road, roughly five minutes' drive from central Queenstown and about a minute from the Coronet Peak access road. It is described as Queenstown's oldest hospitality business. It was built by Patrick Gantley to provide food, drink and lodgings during the gold rush era; the tavern's own website gives 1863 and 1865 in different places, while the Queenstown Times reported an 1874 opening, so the exact date is best treated as uncertain.
The Queenstown Times reported a change of ownership led by Euan Patterson, founder of the ski rental business Snowbiz, with the existing operations and admin managers, Courtney Cook and Katie Murray, becoming shareholders. The same report named Ed Roberts as head chef, with comfort-style dishes featuring locally grown Royal Burn lamb, and noted a focus on Central Otago beer, wine and cider with 24 beer taps. Ownership and staffing may have changed since that report.
The beer garden has mountain views, with lawn games in summer and a fire pit built from an old boiler in winter. A cafe space known as The Nook serves breakfast, and the back restaurant room has been renovated. The tavern is open daily.
The venue states it has several event spaces and hosts weddings, corporate events and parties, with the beer garden promoted for live music and gatherings. No capacities are published in the sources reviewed.
