Holiday Inn Rotorua

This 203-room hotel sits at 10 Tryon Street in Whakarewarewa, on the southern edge of Rotorua where the city meets the Whakarewarewa Forest. It operated for many years as Holiday Inn Rotorua under IHG and has since been rebranded as Rydges Rotorua; both names still appear across booking channels and trade listings, so organisers should check which name a supplier or contract refers to. Whatever the badge, it remains one of Rotorua's larger conference hotels and is oriented squarely at group and delegate business.

Location

The setting is a genuine point of difference. The Redwoods Whakarewarewa Forest and Redwoods Treewalk, the Whakarewarewa living Māori village and the surrounding geothermal country are all within walking or very short driving distance, and the hotel looks toward the geothermal reserve. That puts a full incentive programme — forest walking and mountain biking, cultural experience, geothermal sightseeing — immediately outside the door, without the need for long coach transfers. Central Rotorua and the lakefront are a few minutes away by car.

Meeting and event capability

The hotel's conference offering is anchored by the Pohutu Conference and Events Centre, a large space finished with traditional Māori design elements. Current venue material lists the main room as accommodating up to 750 delegates for a cocktail function and around 300 for a banquet, with the wider property offering eight event spaces ranging from full-scale conference rooms down to boardrooms. Technical fit-out includes HD data projection, integrated Wi-Fi and audio systems, and blackout blinds for the main room. Earlier trade listings described six conference and event facilities catering for more than 600 guests, with the largest room seating up to 500 theatre-style or 300 for a gala dinner — figures worth confirming against the current floor plan.

That scale supports plenary conferences, exhibitions and trade displays, awards dinners and multi-stream programmes with breakouts, all with the accommodation inventory on the same site.

Dining and facilities

Chapman's Restaurant & Bar is the main food and beverage outlet, serving breakfast and dinner with a menu built around local produce. Other facilities include an outdoor swimming pool, a spa tub, a fitness centre, a café, free on-site parking and Wi-Fi in public areas. Rooms are air-conditioned with tea and coffee facilities and in-room safes.

Suitability

With more than 200 rooms and a purpose-built events centre on site, the property is a strong candidate for large residential conferences, association meetings, incentive groups and gala dinners in Rotorua, especially where forest and geothermal experiences are part of the programme.
