Kensington Motel

Kensington Motel is at 85 Kamo Road in Kensington, Whangārei, near the junction of Kamo Road and Kensington Road. The motel has 13 spacious ground-floor units, all serviced daily, ranging from studios through to a two-bedroom unit.

Units and facilities

Of the 13 units, eight are one-bedroom, one is a two-bedroom and one is a Family Studio — these all have fully equipped kitchens with cooktop, microwave, toaster, fridge and tea and coffee making facilities. The remaining three studio units have kitchenettes with tea and coffee making facilities, toaster, microwave and bar fridge.

• Deluxe 1-Bedroom — queen in the bedroom, single in the lounge, sleeps 3.

• 1-Bedroom Family — queen in the bedroom, two singles in the lounge, sleeps 4, 42-inch TV.
• 2-Bedroom — queen in one bedroom, two singles in the other and a single in the lounge, sleeps 5.

All units have ensuite bathrooms with shower, LCD TV with Sky TV, free WiFi, an in-room phone, fridge and air conditioning or heat pump. Motel facilities include an outdoor swimming pool (open October to March), barbecue, daily housekeeping and on-site parking for each unit. There is additional street parking on the back road behind the motel for trucks and larger vehicles — useful for event crews travelling with gear.

Meetings and events

Kensington Motel does not have a conference or meeting room. It is accommodation-only, best treated as a delegate, crew or team base for events staged elsewhere in Whangārei, with the ground-floor layout and mix of multi-bed units making it workable for groups sharing.

Location

The motel is close to the sporting precinct: Kensington Stadium sports complex is 500m away, the Whangārei International Hockey Stadium and athletics track 400m, and Kensington Hospital 100m. Whangārei Girls' High School (500m) and Boys' High School (600m) are both nearby. The Kensington Hub next door has restaurants, cafés, takeaways, a medical centre, pharmacy, ATM, petrol station, post office and the Kensington Tavern, all within 100m. The city centre and bus station are a short drive south via Bank Street.
