Lyall Bay Surf Life Saving Club is a volunteer charity based at 101 Lyall Parade, Lyall Bay, Wellington, overlooking one of the city's best-known surf beaches.
The club describes itself as New Zealand's first surf life saving club to patrol, dating from 1910. Volunteer lifeguards patrol Lyall Bay Beach on weekends from November to March. The club also trains new lifeguards and runs junior surf sports for children aged 6 months to 14 years, plus senior programmes in surf swimming, surf ski, ironman, surf boat rowing and more. According to Wikipedia, a new clubhouse opened in 2021, replacing the 1957 building.
The club's website includes a venue hire section, but it does not publish details on spaces, capacity or terms. Anyone considering a function or team event here should contact the club directly (admin@lyallbayslsc.org.nz) to confirm availability and what is offered.
Lyall Bay sits on the south coast of Wellington, close to the airport, and is a popular surf and swimming beach. See also Wellington venues.
