Māpua Hall is a community-owned venue at 72 Aranui Road in Māpua, Tasman. The hall describes itself as "community built, community owned, community run" and is run by its own hall society and volunteer committee.
The original hall first opened in 1945. After a feasibility study funded by the Lottery Community Facilities Fund and extensive community consultation, it was rebuilt and modernised in 2013 at an estimated cost of about $1,075,000 — Tasman District Council committed $875,000 in its 2012/13 budget and the community raised the remaining $200,000. The refurbished hall was formally re-opened in August 2013. The upgrade brought an increase in toilet facilities, a commercial kitchen, changing rooms for sports groups, more storage, dedicated space for the toy library, upgraded heating and insulation, and audio-visual equipment.
Spaces can be hired separately or combined as a whole facility for large functions.
The commercial kitchen is fully equipped with a commercial gas cooktop, oven and fridge, and includes crockery and cutlery for serving up to 140 guests. A separate kitchenette with microwave, bar fridge, kettle, and tea and coffee mugs is included with all venue hire, as are tables (four at 2400x800, nineteen at 1800x800 and four at 1200x800) and 165 event chairs.
Audio-visual equipment includes a digital projector, a 200-inch projection screen, two 75-inch monitors, eight ceiling speakers and headset microphones, all with connectivity from your own device. Wi-Fi runs throughout the building and the hall has a complete hearing loop system. Car parking with wheelchair access is available.
Bookings and enquiries, including hire of tables and chairs, are handled by the hall coordinator by email.
With a 240-capacity main hall, a mid-sized second hall useful for breakouts or catering, a small private meeting room, installed AV and a hearing loop, Māpua Hall is set up for conferences, seminars, training days, AGMs and community-scale events, and the commercial kitchen makes full catering practical.
