Newtown Park Function Room

The Newtown Park Function Room is a Wellington City Council venue at Newtown Park, entered from 317 Mansfield Street off Roy Street in Newtown. It sits within the wider Newtown Park sports ground and is booked through the Council's venues-for-hire system.

The space

The venue is a single main function room with a stated capacity of 190 people. It is supplied with 100 chairs and 20 tables, and has a bar, a kitchen with a dishwasher, and toilets. The room is available from 8am to midnight, seven days a week.

Important booking condition

The Council specifies that the function room is for sports-related activities only. Permitted uses include training sessions, workshops, seminars, education sessions and meetings. Organisers planning a general corporate function or a private celebration should check eligibility with the Council before proceeding, as this restriction meaningfully narrows who can book the space.

Rates

Published hire fees are $41 per hour at the non-commercial rate and $72 per hour at the commercial rate. Rates are set by Wellington City Council and should be confirmed at the time of booking.

Suitability

For sporting codes, clubs and associations, this is a well-priced room close to central Wellington with the practical fit-out — bar, kitchen, tables and chairs — needed for a prizegiving, an AGM, a coaching seminar or a regional training day. It is not a fit for conferences or incentive programmes outside the sports sector; organisers with broader requirements should look at other Wellington venues.
