Nice Hotel is a boutique hotel and restaurant at 71 Brougham Street in central New Plymouth. The building dates from 1870 and is described as New Plymouth's oldest wooden building; it has been restored and furnished by owner and host Terry Parkes, whose collection of art, curios and furniture gives the interiors their character. It is a design-led, owner-operated property rather than a corporate hotel.
Rooms and suites are individually designed, with contemporary art, designer bathrooms and either double spa baths or massage showers. The scale is deliberately small, and the hotel is positioned at the luxury end of the New Plymouth market. Guests are within walking distance of the city centre, the foreshore and Taranaki's arts venues.
Table is the in-house restaurant, open to both hotel guests and the public. It has an established reputation as one of New Plymouth's leading dining rooms and serves international dishes with a New Zealand accent. The dining spaces extend into several private rooms and a tropical garden courtyard with an outdoor fire for cooler months.
Nice Hotel does not operate a conference centre, and it should not be approached as one. What it does have is private dining rooms and a garden courtyard, which makes it well suited to:
For a programme that needs a memorable evening rather than plenary capacity, this is a strong fit. Delegates can be housed here in small numbers and hosted for dinner in the same building.
The hotel has been named Elegant Luxury Hotel of the Year by The Luxury Travel Guide, and Table is consistently described in coverage as award-winning.
Best used as an incentive and executive-hosting property: a heritage building with a serious restaurant, private dining and a handful of high-specification rooms. Pair it with a larger venue when running a full conference in the region — see other New Plymouth venues.
