Otahuna Lodge is a luxury country lodge at 224 Rhodes Road, Tai Tapu, on the Banks Peninsula side of Christchurch. It occupies a Victorian mansion built in 1895, which the lodge describes as New Zealand's largest private historic residence, set in pastoral countryside below an ancient volcanic cone.
The lodge offers seven suites, each individually styled with period features such as ornate fireplaces alongside modern comforts. The estate includes historic gardens developed since 1895, with restoration of older landscape areas continuing. Guest experiences listed on the website include a cooking class, garden tour, games lawn, swimming pool and massage, with Akaroa, Christchurch, golf, fly fishing, heli-touring from the lawn and the TranzAlpine train all within reach.
A four-course dinner is served in a private, secluded setting. Non-guests can book, but only a table or two is available each night, so it suits small, intimate groups rather than large functions. Dining packages are also offered.
