Picton Little Theatre is a community theatre at 9 Dublin Street in Picton, at the head of Queen Charlotte Sound in Marlborough. It is run as a community organisation and programmes music, plays, comedy, drama and touring artists alongside regular local events.
The theatre seats up to 99 people. It has a large stage, a green room, and modern technical equipment for sound and lighting, plus a kitchen and a bar area. The venue is available for hire by community groups and for private bookings.
The building is thought to date from around 1885 or 1886, which makes it one of the older structures still in active use in Picton. It was previously known as the Forester's Hall before being leased to the Picton Drama Club. The club opened its own Little Theatre to the public on 22 July 1964, an occasion at which the Mayor of Picton acknowledged the club's efforts in providing the town with the asset. It has served as a hub for creative activity in Picton since.
The scale is small and the fit-out is theatrical rather than corporate, so this is not a conference venue. What it does offer planners is a properly equipped raked performance space for up to 99 people, which suits seminars, AGMs, presentations, product launches, film screenings, award evenings and staff functions where a stage, tiered sightlines and working lighting and sound matter more than boardroom facilities.
The kitchen and bar area allow catering to be arranged on site, though arrangements should be confirmed with the theatre. There is no accommodation on site, but the location is central to Picton and close to the waterfront and the inter-island ferry terminal, which makes it convenient for delegates arriving from Wellington.
