Scenic Hotel Bay of Islands is a 114-room, four-star hotel at 58 Seaview Road, at the southern entrance to Paihia, and is part of the New Zealand-owned Scenic Hotel Group. It is set in sub-tropical gardens with water features and an outdoor swimming pool, and is positioned as a resort-style base for small to medium conferences, incentive groups, coach touring and leisure travel in the Bay of Islands.
Guest rooms are graded across five categories, all air-conditioned, with many featuring private balconies or patios overlooking the gardens:
Selected Superior rooms are dog-friendly, with a bed, food and water bowls and direct patio access; these can only be booked directly with the hotel.
Reception is staffed from 6.30am to 10.30pm, check-in runs from 2pm until 10.30pm with an after-hours option, and check-out is by 10am.
The hotel has two function spaces – the Kingfish Room and the Albacore Room – which can be joined to create a single larger space or run separately for concurrent sessions and breakouts. The hotel's functions page describes capability from board meetings through to conferences for up to 120 people; the Scenic Hotel Group event enquiry form lists this venue with a maximum of 140, so organisers should confirm the figure for their preferred layout.
An on-site conference organiser is provided at no additional charge, and daily delegate and meeting packages are available. Full pricing, delegate packages, catering options, equipment hire and room specifications are published in the hotel's downloadable Conference & Event Information Pack. A separate wedding and events coordinator handles weddings, anniversaries, milestone birthdays and club functions, with the palm-fringed pool and outdoor areas used to extend event settings beyond the function rooms.
Nikau Restaurant & Bar serves breakfast, light lunch and dinner with a focus on fresh local produce and seafood, and offers a bar list of New Zealand wines, craft beers and cocktails. There is poolside alfresco seating, and the restaurant is open to the public as well as hotel guests, with bookings recommended. Breakfast is served weekdays from 6.30am to 9.30am and weekends from 6.30am to 10am, with continental, hot and à la carte options.
The hotel is just off State Highway 11 and roughly a 13-minute walk from Paihia Wharf, where most Bay of Islands cruises and the Russell passenger ferry depart. The Waitangi Treaty Grounds, Hole in the Rock and dolphin-watching cruises, Paihia Beach and local walking tracks are all close by, and the property is around a 25-minute drive from Bay of Islands Airport at Kerikeri. Day trips to Russell, Cape Reinga and the Kawiti Glowworm Caves are all workable from here. The hotel displays a Qualmark Gold rating.
Scenic Hotel Bay of Islands suits residential conferences of roughly 100 to 140 delegates, incentive and reward programmes wanting a resort feel with strong Northland activity options, coach-based group travel, and corporate social functions where in-house catering and a single on-site coordinator matter.
