Taranaki Country Lodge is a hosted rural lodge at 169 Hursthouse Road, in the Tarurutangi area near Bell Block, about 15 minutes and roughly 14 km from central New Plymouth and around 13 km from New Plymouth Airport. It is an architecturally designed house set on a 56-acre working farm, with views of Mount Taranaki from the lounge and of the northern coastline from the guest rooms and patio.
The lodge has two guest rooms. Each has a private bathroom with a walk-in shower, bathrobes and toiletries, and beds configured as super kings that convert to king singles. The Egmont Room includes purpose-built wheelchair accessibility, which is worth noting for organisers with accessibility requirements. Other reported in-room and guest amenities include a refrigerator, television, dining area and washing machine.
Hosts Jim and Robyn run the property personally and provide home-cooked meals, including cooked breakfasts and dinners. Guests can be shown around the working farm, and depending on the season may see sheep being mustered by dogs or shorn — a genuine point of difference for visiting international guests.
The lodge has no conference rooms and does not operate as an event venue. Two guest rooms sets a firm ceiling on group size. Where it does fit a MICE programme is narrow but real:
Organisers should plan all meetings, catering for groups and sessions at a separate venue.
A hosted farm lodge, not a venue. Best suited to incentive travel, VIP and speaker accommodation, and small private stays where the appeal is a Mount Taranaki outlook, a working farm and personal hospitality within a short drive of New Plymouth and its airport.
