Wētā Workshop

Wētā Workshop in Miramar, Wellington, is the working studio of the creative team behind physical effects, prosthetics, armour, creatures and miniatures for major films. Behind-the-scenes tours run from 1 Weka Street, Miramar.

The experience

Guided tours take about 90 minutes and are fully indoors. Options include a standard tour, a guided transfer-and-tour package with city pick-up, and private group tours. The studio's credits include The Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit, King Kong, Avatar and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. It holds a Qualmark Gold Award and is open seven days a week except Christmas Day.

Groups and events

The venue lists events and group bookings, the Roxy Cinema as an exclusive group space, school programmes and creative workshops suited to team building. Capacities are not stated on the pages reviewed, so confirm with the venue. A sister attraction, Wētā Workshop Unleashed, operates in Auckland.
