Zeal Hamilton

Zeal Hamilton is a youth centre and creative venue at 9 Ward Lane in the Hamilton CBD, part of the national Zeal network of youth spaces. Alongside its youth programmes — creative workshops, mentoring and employment pathways — Zeal hires out its facilities commercially, and the revenue supports the charitable work.

Spaces for hire

The building offers several distinct hire options:

• Auditorium — the main event space, used for gigs, presentations and larger gatherings
• Band room — rehearsal and small-performance space
• Café space — suited to smaller gigs, receptions and informal functions
• Recording studios
• Large-event configuration combining spaces

A kitchen and coffee cart are on site, and in-house sound and lighting equipment is available for use — an unusual inclusion at this scale, and a practical saving for events that would otherwise hire AV in. Because the building sits in a commercial area, there are no residential noise restrictions, which allows live music and later finishes.

Practical notes

Security can be arranged through the venue at additional cost. For events exceeding 100 attendees, security guards are required at a minimum ratio of one guard per 100 people.

Suitability for meetings and events

Zeal Hamilton suits gigs, launches, staff and team events, creative workshops, training sessions, dance and performance rehearsals, and community or church gatherings. For corporate buyers it is a good fit where the brief calls for an informal, creative CBD space with sound and lighting built in, rather than a conventional hotel meeting room — and where supporting a youth charity through the venue spend is a plus.
