NZSCM marks 25 years in Queenstown, 17-20 September, with Millennium room block and exhibition floor both sold out

MICE editorial — 22 August 2026 Queenstown Tier A

The New Zealand Society of Cosmetic Medicine holds its 25th anniversary conference at Millennium Hotel Queenstown from 17 to 20 September 2026, with pre-conference workshops across the road at the Copthorne Hotel & Resort Queenstown Lakefront. With under a month to run, the organisers' room block is fully booked and the trade exhibition is at capacity with a waitlist.

The New Zealand Society of Cosmetic Medicine (NZSCM) will mark 25 years with its annual conference in Queenstown from 17 to 20 September 2026. The society's conference site confirms the Millennium Hotel Queenstown as the main venue, with the scientific programme running on Level 5 from Friday 18 September through Sunday 20 September, and a day of pre-conference workshops on Thursday 17 September at the Copthorne Hotel & Resort Queenstown Lakefront, directly across Frankton Road. The event appears independently in Meeting Newz's 2026 coming-events calendar as "NZSCM 2026 (New Zealand Society of Cosmetic Medicine) - Millennium Hotel, Queenstown", 17-20 September.

With under a month to run, the event is deep into its final phase. Registration remains open at the standard rate from 17 August, the early-bird window having closed. Two capacity signals are already public on the conference site: the organisers' dedicated room block at the Millennium is "now fully booked, and the hotel has no further availability", and the trade exhibition is "currently at capacity", with prospective exhibitors directed to a waitlist.

Who runs it

NZSCM describes itself on its own site as a not-for-profit society "setting the standard of cosmetic medicine in New Zealand" through advocacy, education and collaboration, led by experienced cosmetic doctors alongside professional staff and an education faculty. The society positions education as its core function, running what it calls New Zealand's only field-recognised training pathway to advanced competency in cosmetic medicine — a two-year programme of workshops, peer support and clinical assessments leading to the NZSCM Diploma — and states that it offers the only Medical Council of New Zealand-recognised pathway for doctors seeking advanced training in the field. It also publishes clinical guidance for practitioners, including the 'DRS ABCD' emergency protocol for managing filler-related vision loss, and works with the Medical Council and other bodies on standards for medical-led, regulated care.

The society's own homepage frames the Queenstown event as "the NZSCM Annual Conference" and "Aotearoa New Zealand's premier cosmetic medicine event", and its sponsorship page describes it as the country's only doctor-led cosmetic medicine conference. Office holders visible in the 2026 line-up include Dr Paul Nola of Ponsonby Cosmetic Medicine Clinic, who sits on the NZSCM Executive and Education Board as Education Officer and delivers both the welcome and the closing remarks, and Dr Ellen Selkon of Clinic 42, listed as the society's Treasurer of 13 years. Conference management is handled by Christchurch-based professional conference organiser Conference Innovators, with named contacts for sponsorship and for accommodation.

Who it is for, and the programme

The audience is medical: NZSCM lists the conference as a must-attend for doctors, nurses and dentists. The New Zealand Aesthetic Nurses Association holds its own meeting at the Millennium on the Friday morning before the plenary opens, and the Friday runs from a mihi whakatau into a full scientific day.

The programme is clinical and technical rather than promotional in tone. Sessions listed include how dermal fillers behave in tissue and why PEG-crosslinked fillers behave differently; immunogenicity and longevity in botulinum toxins; the role of amino acids, calcium hydroxylapatite and hyaluronic acid in skin regeneration; regeneration versus repair versus remodelling; medical and surgical management of hair loss; vascular and skin concerns treated with laser platforms; aesthetic medicine in menopausal skin health; aesthetic management of patients undergoing medication-driven weight loss; and lip anatomy and aesthetic balance. A two-hour Laser Safety Course opens the Thursday workshops. Sunday is given over to practical streams badged "Mastery in Motion" and "Master and Model", using the Millennium's Level 2 meeting rooms alongside the Level 5 plenary. An NZSCM graduation ceremony and awards presentation closes the Friday sessions.

The speaker faculty is a mix of local and international. Overseas presenters listed include Dr Steven Harris, an aesthetic practitioner and researcher known for work on ultrasound-guided aesthetic medicine and injection safety; Croatian plastic and aesthetic surgeon Dr Marko Mance; Brazilian dermatologist Dr Marcus Morais; and Australian cosmetic physicians Dr Mary Dingley, Dr David Kosenko, Dr Kristy Kostalas and Dr Niki Talic. New Zealand presenters include Dr Nola, Dr Selkon, Dr Leanne Ashley, Dr AJ Seine, Dr Eric Song, Dr Zac Moaveni, Dr Thomas Doo and Dr Sarah Hart. Business commentator Sacha Coburn is the conference MC. Several sessions are still marked as speaker or topic to be confirmed.

Venue, accommodation and delegate movement

The Millennium Hotel Queenstown sits at 32 Frankton Road, within walking distance of the town centre's dining, retail and entertainment. The conference uses Galaxy I on Level 5 as the plenary room, with the trade exhibition and all catering breaks in Galaxy II and III alongside it, and breakout workshops in meeting rooms on Level 2 — a compact vertical footprint that keeps delegates, exhibitors and catering in one building. The Copthorne Hotel & Resort Queenstown Lakefront, immediately across the road, absorbs the Thursday workshop day. Queenstown Airport at Frankton is a short drive from both properties, which is a large part of why the corridor works for a national medical association pulling delegates from across the country and from Australia.

Accommodation is the live pressure point. With the block exhausted, organisers are telling registrants that availability at hotels closest to the Millennium is also becoming limited and are pointing delegates to nearby properties including voco Queenstown, Heartland Hotel Queenstown, the Copthorne, Ramada Queenstown Central, Scenic Suites and Blue Peaks Lodge. The one off-site movement in the programme is the Saturday conference dinner, a Bollywood-themed event at Queenstown Memorial Hall on Memorial Street from 6.30pm, with transfers to and from the Millennium provided by the organisers.

Why it matters in NZ business events

This is a textbook mid-size association conference doing exactly what regional New Zealand wants in the September shoulder: four days, a hotel-based delegate cluster, a sold-out trade floor, an off-site gala and a specialist audience with real spend. The anniversary framing has plainly lifted demand — both the accommodation block and the exhibition sold through well ahead of the event, which is not the normal pattern for a national society meeting of this scale.

It also underlines the Millennium Hotel Queenstown's role as a workhorse for association business in the resort. The same 2026 Meeting Newz calendar lists the Internal Medicine Society of Australia and New Zealand at the Millennium in March and Plastics New Zealand's 80th annual conference there in May, putting NZSCM in a steady rotation of national bodies choosing Queenstown over the main-centre convention venues when the delegate count suits a hotel floor rather than a purpose-built centre.
