Dunedin venues that can seat 850 or more delegates theatre-style, ranked live by capacity.
Dunedin's university city status gives it a strong pipeline of academic, medical and scientific conferences, and a handful of large venues — the town hall and conference complex, the university's big lecture and function spaces, and the city's stadium — that can take a major plenary. For events needing to seat 850 or more delegates theatre-style, the choice narrows to the southern city's largest rooms.
The live list below ranks every Dunedin venue in the MICE directory whose largest room seats 850 or more in theatre layout, ordered by capacity. Treat it as a plenary shortlist, not a guarantee of fit: the headline theatre figure is a maximum, and your usable number depends on the stage and set, AV and lighting rig, sightlines, aisles and accessibility. Confirm the working capacity for your specific production with each venue.
Dunedin's compact centre keeps its largest venues, hotels and restaurants close together, which helps a multi-day academic programme run smoothly. Compare this shortlist with the national capacities index, the full venues directory and nearby conference hotels to plan the plenary and the surrounding logistics together. MICE keeps the capacity, accommodation and supplier data for the whole country in one live record.

Only the city's largest spaces — its town hall and conference complex, major university venues and the stadium — reach this threshold. The live list on this page shows the current qualifying venues ranked by capacity.
It is the maximum. Staging, AV, sightlines, aisles and accessibility reduce the usable total, so confirm the real capacity for your layout with each venue.
As a university city with a strong research base, it draws a steady flow of academic, medical and scientific conventions that need large plenary space.
