Esri's New Zealand user conference lands at the new NZICC for October 2026

MICE editorial — 30 August 2026 Auckland Tier A

Eagle Technology has locked in the New Zealand Esri User Conference for 12-14 October 2026 at Auckland's New Zealand International Convention Centre, which opened only in February. The country's largest geospatial gathering returns to Auckland after runs in Wellington and Christchurch, with a pre-conference Emergency Management Summit starting the day before.

What is confirmed

The New Zealand Esri User Conference (NZEUC) will be held from 12 to 14 October 2026 at the New Zealand International Convention Centre in Auckland, running 8:30am to 4:30pm each day. Those details come directly from the event listing published by Eagle Technology on its own corporate site, which names the venue as "New Zealand International Convention Centre | Auckland" and describes NZEUC 2026 as the largest geospatial event of the year.

The conference has a dedicated live website at nzeuc.eagle.co.nz, which resolves and returns a valid page under the 2026 branding. The dates are independently corroborated by a third party: Locus, listing itself as a Gold Sponsor and Official Exhibitor, has published a 12-14 October 2026 Auckland entry describing three days of learning, knowledge sharing and networking for GIS and geospatial professionals from across New Zealand and the South Pacific.

Who runs it

NZEUC is organised by Eagle Technology Group, Esri's distributor in New Zealand and the company that has anchored the local ArcGIS ecosystem for decades. Eagle positions the conference on its own About NZEUC page as the largest annual gathering of the New Zealand GIS community, timed to follow the global Esri International User Conference so that the local audience hears the strategic and technical direction of the platform first-hand from both Esri and Eagle.

That page also carries an attributed endorsement from Matt Flowerday, Director of GPS-IT, who calls it "New Zealand's premier GIS event and absolutely critical on our calendar".

NZEUC sits at the top of a wider annual programme. Eagle runs the conference alongside the New Zealand Esri Users Group, and the two also deliver an eight-centre Regional User Conference roadshow earlier in the year. Eagle's own account of the 2024 roadshow put it at eight locations, roughly 650 people and around 400 organisations, which gives a useful sense of the size of the addressable community that NZEUC then draws into one room.

The conference moves around the country. Eagle's blog confirms the 2024 edition ran 23-25 September at Tākina Convention Centre in Wellington. The 2025 edition was held at Te Pae in Christchurch, evidenced by an Esri Community post promoting a LocalMaps breakfast session on Tuesday 16 September in Te Pae's ground-floor Dobson room. A 2023 Auckland edition is carried on the 10times aggregator. On that pattern, 2026 is Auckland's turn, and it arrives just as the city has a new flagship venue to put it in.

Who it is for and what is programmed

The audience is the working New Zealand geospatial sector: local government GIS teams, utilities and infrastructure operators, conservation and biosecurity agencies, emergency management, primary industries and the consultancies and resellers around them. Eagle's roadshow write-ups give a flavour of the subject matter that feeds into the main conference, from crime hotspot analysis and digital twins in horticulture, to predator and pest control operations in remote country, to national and local emergency management common operating platforms, avian influenza response and applied machine learning.

The 2026 structure runs to a familiar three-day convention shape. Alongside the scheduled sessions there is an Expo floor with exhibitors and sponsors, catered breaks and lunches, a welcome function and a conference dinner. A pre-conference Emergency Management Summit is scheduled across two half-day sessions, on Sunday 11 October from 12:30pm to 6:00pm and Monday 12 October from 9:00am to 12:00pm, with delegates able to attend one or both. That summit has its own page on the conference site and is offered as an add-on to full registration, meaning delegate arrivals into Auckland effectively begin on the Sunday rather than the Monday.

The venue and delegate movement

The NZICC is a significant piece of context for this booking. It opened on 13 February 2026, following a ceremonial opening led by Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei on 11 February, and is owned and operated by SkyCity Entertainment Group in partnership with the New Zealand government. Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei gifted the building the name Te Tumu.

The centre sits at 101 Hobson Street in the Auckland CBD, with additional entrances at 83 Wellesley Street West and 50 Nelson Street. It has a gross floor area of more than 32,000sqm across 33 meeting spaces, a 2,852-seat theatre divisible into two 1,235-seat theatres, and Ariki Hall, the largest indoor exhibition space in Auckland. Overall capacity runs to more than 4,000 delegates, with convention capacity stated at 3,150 and pre-function capacity at 2,700. A conference of NZEUC's scale therefore occupies a fraction of the building, which matters mainly for how comfortably a plenary, concurrent streams and an exhibition floor can run in parallel.

On delegate movement, the venue reports Auckland Airport as roughly a 45-minute drive depending on traffic, with the SkyDrive Airport Express shuttle and InterCity coaches both terminating at the InterCity SkyCity Bus Terminal about a two-minute walk away. Britomart, the CBD's rail and ferry hub, is about a 20-minute walk. The City Rail Link's new Te Waihorotiu Station, with entrances on Victoria and Wellesley Streets, opens during 2026 and will sit closer again. There are 1,327 onsite car parks at 46 Nelson Street with accessible bays and EV charging, plus 120 bike racks on level B1. NZICC states more than 8,000 hotel rooms and some 750 dining options within a short walk, which removes most of the accommodation-block pressure that a three-day conference of this size would otherwise create.

Why it matters in New Zealand MICE

NZEUC is a well-established domestic association-style conference with a repeat exhibitor and sponsor base, a pre-conference summit, and a national community feeding it through a regional roadshow. It is exactly the sort of recurring, multi-day, exhibition-bearing event that the business events sector counts on between international congresses.

Its arrival at NZICC in the venue's first year of operation is the more interesting signal. Tourism New Zealand has publicly forecast the centre will attract 33,000 international visitors a year and more than $90 million in new annual economic activity. Domestic conferences like NZEUC, which bring several hundred delegates into the CBD for three days plus a Sunday pre-conference start, are the base load that makes those numbers work. For Auckland, a rotating national conference choosing the new centre on its first Auckland turn since it opened is a practical vote of confidence rather than a ceremonial one.
