Human Resources New Zealand's flagship 2026 national event is the Future Workplaces Forum + Expo, "Widening the Gate — Creating Equity in Workplaces", on Thursday 12 November 2026 at the Pullman Auckland Hotel & Apartments. The directory's Wellington, Tākina and 1 October details are all incorrect against the organiser's own published programme.
Human Resources New Zealand has confirmed its 2026 national gathering as the Future Workplaces Forum + Expo, themed "Widening the Gate — Creating Equity in Workplaces", on Thursday 12 November 2026 from 8am at the Pullman Auckland Hotel & Apartments. HRNZ's forum pages state the Forum and Expo are held in the hotel's Princes Ballroom, with the published programme running from 8am registration through to a networking function closing at 6.30pm. This is a single-day, single-city event in Auckland — not a Wellington event, and not an event at Tākina.
The owning organisation is Human Resources New Zealand, the not-for-profit professional body for HR practitioners in Aotearoa, run from a national office at Level 2, Panama House, 22 Panama Street, Wellington. HRNZ's own site describes a community of around 11,500 professionals, roughly 3,600 members, more than 300 events run annually and 40 years in operation. Its lineage runs back to the Wellington Personnel Management Association formed in 1956, through the Personnel Management Association of New Zealand in 1969 and the Institute of Personnel Management NZ, incorporated in 1985, before the rebrand to HRNZ.
HRNZ states the Future Workplaces Forum was introduced in 2023 in partnership with the University of Auckland Business School, and that partnership continues for 2026. The organisation also runs the NZ HR Awards, the HR Virtual Summits, Chartered Membership and Accredited Professional certification.
The 2026 programme published by HRNZ is fully built out rather than placeholder. Broadcaster Te Radar is MC. Speakers include Gail Pacheco, Equal Employment Opportunities Commissioner at Te Kāhui Tika Tangata | New Zealand Human Rights Commission, opening on what workplace equity actually means; Maretha Smit, chief executive of Te Uru Tāngata Centre for Workplace Inclusion, leading a panel on the digital divide in an AI-shaped workplace; Olivia Dyet, founder of empathix, on fair selection and algorithmic screening; economist Cameron Bagrie of Bagrie Economics on labour-market equity and productivity; Charlotte Ward, Chief People Officer at Kiwibank, on inclusion, belonging and diversity; and Steven Moe, partner at Parry Field Lawyers, on governance and accountability. The afternoon is given over to a two-hour "Big Bloom Hackathon" facilitated by Gergana David and Louisa Dellabarca — a collective-intelligence prototyping session rather than a lecture block.
HRNZ states the Forum is aimed at HR leaders, people managers and anyone involved in shaping workplace systems and strategy, and elsewhere describes the Forum as bringing together mid and senior HR leaders. HRNZ has not published a delegate number for 2026. The format is a full day of keynotes, panels and table discussion running alongside an interactive expo of HR services and solutions, with morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea all scheduled in the expo space. HRNZ also references joining in person or online.
The Pullman Auckland Hotel & Apartments sits at the corner of Waterloo Quadrant and Princes Street, Auckland 1010, on the eastern edge of the city centre near the University of Auckland. HRNZ has booked the Princes Ballroom for both the Forum and the Expo, meaning plenary, catering breaks and exhibition all sit within one hotel footprint — a compact single-floor delegate flow with no external transfers built into the day.
On parking, HRNZ's venue page reports a Wilson car park directly beneath the hotel, entered from Waterloo Quadrant on the right-hand side of the building, card-payment only; it also points delegates to the Auckland Council Victoria Street car park, a further Wilson site nearby, and Auckland Transport on-street parking. Limited valet parking is available at the hotel subject to availability.
For accommodation, HRNZ lists three walkable properties: the Pullman itself, the Mövenpick Hotel Auckland at 8 Customs Street East — which HRNZ describes as about a 10-minute walk from the Pullman — and SO/ Auckland at the corner of Customs Street East and Gore Street. All three are Accor properties in the central city, so out-of-town delegates can stay and walk.
This is a professional-body national event that behaves like a conference-plus-exhibition: a programmed plenary day with a co-located expo, a networking function, and a residential accommodation block negotiated across three CBD hotels. That combination — association owner, single-day format, in-hotel ballroom rather than a purpose-built convention centre — is a common and commercially significant shape for the New Zealand market, and it shows an association can run a full delegate-and-exhibitor experience without a dedicated convention centre.
It also matters as a data point on host-city rotation. HRNZ is headquartered in Wellington but has anchored its flagship forum in Auckland, tied to its University of Auckland Business School partnership. For Wellington venues, that is the relevant competitive fact — and it is why the directory listing for this event needed correcting rather than confirming.
