Sauvignon Blanc New Zealand 2027 (SBNZ27) is a three-day international wine conference running 2–4 February 2027, centred on the ASB Theatre in Blenheim and venues across Marlborough. It returns the New Zealand Winegrowers showcase to its Wairau heartland after a six-year break, drawing 400-plus trade, media and producer delegates.
Sauvignon Blanc New Zealand 2027 (SBNZ27) runs from 2 to 4 February 2027, a three-day conference centred on the ASB Theatre in Blenheim and venues across the wider Marlborough region. Timed for the height of the New Zealand summer and the eve of harvest, it returns the country's flagship celebration of its most important wine variety to Wairau, the Marlborough valley where modern New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc was built.
The event marks a notable comeback. Marlborough hosted the International Sauvignon Blanc Celebration in 2016 and again in 2019, and SBNZ27 is the first edition after a six-year break. Organisers position it as the return of an immersive industry gathering rather than a brand-new event, and registration opened well ahead of the dates, with participating winery registration already underway and attendee tickets opening from February 2026.
Sauvignon Blanc New Zealand sits under New Zealand Winegrowers, the national industry body that trades as NZ Wine and whose copyright appears on the official event site. The inaugural 2016 celebration was described by New Zealand Winegrowers as a major priority for the organisation, and the brand has remained the custodian of the showcase through its subsequent editions.
Delivery of the 2027 event is handled by the Sauvignon 2027 organising committee, chaired by Natalie Christensen, chief winemaker at Yealands. The committee's work has been backed by Wine Marlborough, Business Events Marlborough (part of Destination Marlborough) and Tourism New Zealand Business Events, which together supported the bid to bring the conference back to the region.
The heart of the programme is curated tasting. Across the three days, participating wineries from around New Zealand each present three of their best Sauvignon Blancs in afternoon sessions, framed by what organisers describe as progressive conversations, standout culinary moments and social events. The content focuses on the category's evolution and modern winemaking, with a line-up of New Zealand and international speakers, and the format is rounded out by features such as a Launch Party and a 'Dinner at My Place' hosted experience.
The audience is deliberately international and trade-focused. Organisers and coverage describe SBNZ27 as convening the global wine community, including trade leaders, sommeliers, international media, critics and content creators, alongside the producers and growers whose wines anchor the tastings. Attendance is limited, and demand is expected to be high.
Marlborough is the obvious home for the event: the region accounts for the bulk of New Zealand's Sauvignon Blanc, and the 2027 announcement coincided with the 50th anniversary of the first Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc plantings in 1975. Delegates rated the 2019 Marlborough edition as world class, and the committee's choice of Wairau for 2027 was unanimous.
Blenheim is the region's main town and the site of the ASB Theatre hub, with the surrounding Wairau and Awatere valleys holding most of the cellar doors, restaurants and vineyard venues used across the programme. Destination Marlborough has noted that delegates are expected to be accommodated in close proximity to the main conference venue, reflecting a compact host footprint. The region is served by Marlborough Airport at Blenheim, which carries domestic connections to the main New Zealand hubs, and is also reachable via the Picton ferry link to the North Island for those travelling overland.
For New Zealand's business-events sector, SBNZ27 is a marquee regional win. More than 400 delegates are expected, with an estimated economic impact of over NZ$900,000 for Marlborough, and Tourism New Zealand Business Events has used the result to showcase the country's appeal for conferences built around knowledge, food, wine and landscape. It is a clear example of a provincial region leveraging a globally recognised product to secure international trade, media and producer visitors outside the main centres, and of a national industry body choosing a purpose-built regional theatre and distributed vineyard venues over a big-city convention centre.
