About Dunedin Railway Station

The Dunedin Railway Station is one of New Zealand's most admired heritage buildings, a masterpiece of Edwardian Baroque design completed in 1906 when Dunedin was the country's leading commercial centre. Designed by railways architect George Troup, it is celebrated for its imposing stone exterior and clocktower, Royal Doulton tiled booking hall and stained-glass windows, and is often cited as among the most photographed buildings in the country.

Building & uses

Beyond its role as a working station, the building houses a restaurant, gallery space, the New Zealand Sports Hall of Fame and the Cleveland Living Arts Centre. Its grand interiors and forecourt are regularly used for festivals, cultural events and functions throughout the year.

Suitability

For organisers seeking a venue with genuine heritage character, the Dunedin Railway Station provides a distinctive setting for receptions, exhibitions, launches and cultural events in the heart of the city. Its architectural significance makes it a memorable backdrop for special occasions. Discover more Dunedin venues.
