Bill Richardson Transport World is a transport museum at 491 Tay Street, Invercargill, open daily from 10am to 5pm. Its collection is described as more than 300 classic vehicles, built from decades of vintage vehicle restoration by Bill Richardson, with his family adding to the collection since.
Exhibits include vintage trucks, classic cars, early Ford vehicles, a Volkswagen display and a Texaco tanker. The Grille Cafe operates on site. The museum holds Qualmark Gold accreditation, and it belongs to the wider Transport World group, which also includes Classic Motorcycle Mecca and The Lodges at Transport World.
The website lists conference and meeting hire, gala dinner and cocktail party hire, weddings, incentives and catering through The Grille. Our record lists 6 spaces. Capacities are not published on the pages reviewed, so planners should request floor plans and numbers directly from the venue.
A gala dinner or networking function among classic vehicles gives groups visiting Southland a distinctive setting that is quite different from a hotel ballroom. It also suits incentive programmes with a museum visit built in.
