The Reef Resort

The Reef Resort sits directly on the Lake Taupo shoreline at 219 Lake Terrace, with views across the lake towards the mountains of Tongariro National Park. Listed under the Heritage Collection of New Zealand properties, it operates as a self-contained apartment-style resort rather than a conventional hotel.

Accommodation ranges from luxury and standard studios through to one, two and three-bedroom lakefront apartments sleeping up to six guests, with lake-view, poolside and garden-view options available. Units are self-contained with kitchen facilities, thermal heating and air conditioning, and some include private spa baths, making the property well suited to longer incentive stays, small executive groups or family-style accommodation for event attendees.

On site, guests have access to a year-round heated freshwater pool and a naturally geothermally heated hot tub, along with outdoor BBQ dining areas, bike hire, complimentary Wi-Fi and parking, and optional breakfast service. No dedicated conference or meeting rooms or an in-house restaurant are advertised, so the property functions primarily as accommodation rather than an events venue; groups needing formal meeting space would typically pair a stay here with a separate function venue elsewhere in Taupō.

The Reef Resort has been recognised in TripAdvisor's Top 25 Most Romantic Hotels in New Zealand and holds Hall of Fame status on that platform, reflecting consistently strong guest satisfaction. Its lakefront position and self-contained apartments make it a practical accommodation base for incentive groups and event delegates visiting Taupō venues for meetings or conferences held elsewhere in town.
