Every New Zealand restaurant on MICE with a Google rating of 4.5 or higher, ranked live — a national shortlist for group dining and event dinners.
A 4.5 Google rating is a useful floor rather than a badge of excellence. It is high enough to filter out restaurants with genuine service or consistency problems, and broad enough to keep the field wide — which is exactly what you want when you are sourcing group dining rather than picking somewhere for two. For a conference dinner, an incentive group or a board dinner, the difference between a good night and a bad one is usually operational: whether the kitchen can hold a set menu for 60, whether the room can be held exclusively, and whether service can land three courses inside your programme window.
Ratings do not answer those questions, so treat this list as the first cut. The restaurants that handle groups well tend to share a few traits: a private or semi-private room, a set-menu offering they push rather than tolerate, a stated maximum group size, and a willingness to give you a time-bound service plan in writing. Ask about all four. Ask also about minimum spend, exclusive-hire thresholds and dietary handling — in a group of 60 you will typically have eight to twelve dietary requirements, and how a kitchen manages those is a fair proxy for how it manages everything else.
The ranking below reads live from the restaurants directory and is ordered by rating, nationally. Ratings shift over time and reflect the whole customer base, not group bookings specifically, so use them alongside a site visit or a call. If you are building a full conference programme, the venues directory and accommodation directory cover the rest — MICE keeps venues, hotels, restaurants and suppliers in a single national record so the whole shortlist can be built in one place.

It is solidly above average. Most established restaurants sit between 4.0 and 4.6, so 4.5 filters out consistency problems while keeping the field wide enough to give you real choice in every city.
Not directly. Ratings reflect the general customer base, mostly small tables. A restaurant can be excellent for two and poor for sixty. Always ask specifically about set menus, private rooms and maximum group size.
Maximum seated group size, whether a private or semi-private room is available, set-menu options and pricing, minimum spend or exclusive-hire threshold, dietary handling, and how long service will take for your group size.
As a rule of thumb, expect around 15 to 20 percent of a New Zealand corporate group to have a dietary requirement. Collect them at registration and give the venue final numbers well before the day.
Ratings on MICE listings are refreshed periodically from public review sources. They are a guide, not a guarantee — check the current rating and recent reviews before you commit.
